Patch editing insight!!!!

Okay I noticed some patches on the virus are rather WIDE stereo image wise. Some simply are not! What's responsible for making it wide I can't for my life figure it out.....is it unison. I would like to make certain patches wide quickly within thhe virus. How do I do so?

The sensation of wideness is caused by your left and right ears not receiving the exact same sound, with slight differences in character, volume, pitch and phase.

  • The "stereo widener" in the character section of the FX1 tab, does complementive EQing to the left and right channels.
  • You can do continouos rapid panning to the sound.
  • Spreading the unison, using chorus and other delay based effects will give you phase and pitch differences between left and right. The Leslie speaker simulation will also add panning.

Thank you sir!
I think it's spreading the Unison? how can this be done?

honestly it sounds like one osc is panned one way and the other is panned another way... Kinda like in sylenth... thats how i would achieve this...

In VC the unison controls are in the LFO section, and there is a spread knob there. You can also change the filter routing to "split" so that some of the oscillators would go through one filter to the left channel, and the other oscillators would go through the other filter to the right channel. You can control the amount of separation in this case using the very same unison spread knob.

Do u know where this spread knob is on the actual board not VC

There isn't a dedicated knob for this. The unison spread can be reached from the single edit menu, Unison 1/1 page, Pan Spread value. The same way, filter routing can be changed from the filter edit menu, Common 1/2 page, Routing parameter.
