Questions re MULTI Mode

Hi Guys,

My apologies to the advanced users who will read my silly questions but here we go !

I just bought a TI2 Desktop. Great machine indeed. It seems however to be more orientated to studio work than stage. So I'm struggling with the MULTI mode and I have a few basic questions. Before anyone asks the obvious question: yes, I've read the manual and checked this forum  . I haven't found answers to the following questions though :

1. Virus Control is a fantastic tool for twiddling the TI2 in Seq mode. It would be great if VC also worked in Multi Mode. It would tremendously improve the work flow. Does anyone know of a PC based tool that would help programming the TI2 in Multi Mode. When I say "programming", I'm not talking about sound design, but just setting up the basics of a Multi: enabling/disabling parts, setting the patches, setting the relative volume, naming the Multi, moving Multis around, etc.
By way of example, Yamaha synth users can rely on John Melas' tools. Much easier than twiddling the (few) knobs and cursors on my Yamaha MO6 !

2. Is there a way to copy one Multi to another Multi location. I tried storing a Multi in a different location and it didn't work ...

3. Is there a way to create a Multi "template", with all parts "off". The reason I'm asking is that in the factory set up, each Multi is set to respond to all 16 midi channels. Which makes kind of sense. However, when controlling the TI2 from my Yamaha Master keyboard (MO6), some Yamaha "Masters" inevitably and inadvertedly trigger one of those "dormant" TI2 Multis. Is my only option to review all 128 Multis and turn off all unused parts ? Hopefully not: That's 2,048 manipulations ! ;(

Thanks for your help,

Brett

1. VC will not have anything to do with multi mode - you can prepare patches for multi mode, but only this.

2. Multi location 0-15 are different to 16-127.
- 0-15 store the singles in the preset - so if you edit them in single mode, they will not affect the multi and vice versa.
- 16-127 will not store the singles, if you edit them in single mode they will change in multi mode, too.
- If you have a preset on 0-15, you won't be able to save it on 16-127, I havent tried the other way round.

3. There is no multi management tool that I have found, but I have also found the virus interface to be pretty easy to use - I agree that setting up all the patches would be cumbersome, but I would also not bother preparing them all - I'd just do them as i need them. For an individual preset its pretty easy to do, just set, click to next part, set, etc.

My virus spends much of it's life in multi mode, so I sympathise with the lack of any sort of management tool. I thing it was something of a legacy inclusion for the TI - very sad for those who want to use it on stage without it being dependant on a pc.

Thanks AtonyB.

Regarding the Multi Management Tool, it is really a big issue. Let me explain in more details: My Yamaha MO6 is receiving on midi channel 9; My Nord Stage receives on midi channels 1 & 2 (Pianos & Keys), 3 & 4 (Organs) and 5 & 6 (Synth). Therefore, the "Masters" in the MO6 can be transmitting on any of these 7 midi channels.
So when the TI2 is in Multi Mode, it may be triggered at any time by an MO6 "Master". And apparently the only to prevent this is turning off all unused parts in all 128 Multis !! Well, I'd better get it over with then. ;(

Cheers

Yeah, turning them off is an option - you can also change what midi channels the different parts listen to for layering, etc.

if you make one multi which fits your requirements you need to copy that to 128 location which will take you like 5 minutes.

Well, two actually, since there are two types of multi on the virus. But your point still holds, kinda.

Thanks Marc, that's probably the most efficient (and least time consuming) way of achieving what I want.
