TIOS 2.0.3 features

Among other enhancements, the new version adds tutorial videos and a new Help function from within the Virus Control AU/VST plug-in. The videos illustrate how best to integrate Virus Control with Apple Logic and Ableton Live. In addition, tutorial Videos on how to install and use Virus Control have been included.

Richard Devine Signature Set

Renowned Warp Recordsartist Richard Devine has provided an unreal signature set for Virus TI users which makes exclusive use of the new Grain Table and Formant Oscillators.
Being the first 128 patches set entirely created using the new oscillators introduced with version 2.0, it takes the Virus TI into formally unknown sonic territory and is highly recommended for download, especially if you don't need another trance lead sound ;)

Andi Vax and Terran Westbook AKA. SurfaceX released new Virus sound sets both targeting rather dance music oriented artists. TIOS 2.0.2 is a maintenance release for OS 2.0 which every Virus TI user is recommended to install. The new version mostly fixes issues introduced with version 2.0. It also installs some new sounds which illustrate the capabilities of the new oscillator models in the user library folder. A detailed list of changes can be found in a document called Change Log.pdf within the Documentation folder.

TIOS 2.0 is a combined feature and maintainance release. The installer package will update your Virus TI hardware, drivers, Virus Control plug-ins and documentation.

The new version features additional oscillator types, enhanced Wavetable synthesis and more wavetables. It allows you to see how expensive a chosen patch is and features Section Locking through Virus Control. Patches can be finally sorted by category and the onboard patch ROM contains addition 256 sounds by Matthew Stolley and Matt Picone.

A new version is available for download free of charge. The maintenance update improves the overall system stability, fixes a patch save related bug and is recommended for every user.

Universal binary support for Mac Intel users and improved stability are the main features of the new Virus TI operating system. Version 1.2.3. resolves startup and synchronisation issues, improves the handling of 48k projects, offers faster starting up of the Virus Control plug-in and other refinements.

About Mac Intel Support
Some of our customers like to be on the forefront of the very latest technology. So we wanted to give these early Intel Mac adopters a chance to use Total Integration right away, even before most of the major hosts have been released.
Currently, there are not very many Intel Macs in use in music production, which makes a normal beta testing cycle difficult. There are not as many Universal Binary (Intel Mac Native) hosts yet, and as they become available, they will need much testing and tweaking.
So you get to be part of our transition process to Intel Mac and enjoy using the Virus TI as an “early adopter” of the new Intel Macs!

The new operating system version for the TI range of synthesizers features a new Direct Monitoring mode and plasma style VU meters for each individual part along with bug fixes and refinements. The update can be downloaded free of charge in the download section.

There have been improvements in overall stability, performance and the communication with the Virus Control plug-in. We fixed bugs which could have led to crackles, hanging notes and crashes under certain conditions. We encourage every TI owner to install version 1.2.1.

Note: Version 1.2.0 has been removed from the server. We encourage downloaders of version 1.2.0 to install version 1.2.1. instead

A public beta version is available for download and testing. After over 4 month of programming and testing the new version offers new features and bug fixes. Among those new features are 112 additional multi programs, a soft clipping algorithm for all outputs, a remote template editor and loads of tutorials which automatically install with the software suite.

Setup and operation tutorials on how to use the Virus TI in conjunction with Ableton Live, Apple Logic and Steinberg Cubase are available for download using the link below.

The tutorials are intended to assist you optimising your System to get the best out of the Virus TI and your favourite host sequencer.

This is an updated status and progress info on OS version 1.1 for the Virus TI series of synthesizers.

For a while we found ourselves in a fairly tricky situation. It was expressed so many times (not by us though) that 1.1 will be the problem solver for everybody and everything and for obvious reasons that puts extra pressure on us. "Extra" in the respect that it is harder to put out a OS release which would be "good enough" to satisfy.

In software development, there is always room for fixing and improving things - and things often takes more time than expected.

OS1.1 was planned to be just another feature update but turned into something more. If we would have released 1.1 as it was planned back in December, we would have easily made it in February.

The good news is: right now, we are wrapping things up. By the end of the week we plan to issue a "release candidates" to our testers. A release candidate is another beta version but from this point onwards to the release version there will be no further additions.

There has been reworks on many core parts of the virus control, drivers and the virus TIOS. We have tripled our beta tester base and to be honest, we have learned a lot.

I think there is a good chance that we will release 1.1 within 2-4 weeks from now on - obviously just in case nothing unpredictable will happen from now on. From the release onward we hope to put out versions more frequently again in order to present you with an improved version quicker.

We have considered releasing a public beta but decided against it. A public beta which is supposed to fix important problems doesn't help much - unless you can truly say that it will fix those things. It's still a beta and there is still a reason why it's not a release build.

This update is an interim update which increases the overall stability of the Virus TI in stand alone operations and in conjunction with the Virus Control plug-in.

The Hotfix Update should be installed by users who discover random instabilities and DSP crashes. The OS updater requires OS 1.0.9 to be installed first.

The NAMM show 2006 was a huge success for us. We had so many visitors that we nearly ran out of brochures on the last day. Virus TIOS 1.1 Details

Version 1.1 features an array of enhancements and new functionalities and will be available in Q2/2006. Besides improved stability, there are two new browser functions ("Sort By Category" and "Search by Name") and the new Remote Mode to turn the Virus TI into a univeral midi control surface.

VIRUSControl can now automatically build banks based on sound categories. Every Virus TI patch is stored with one or two categories. This information can now be used to easily search for specific sounds regardless of the patch name.

"Search by Name" allows you to enter a string of text and search for patches by name (including partial match) among all onboard sounds and in sound banks stored on your computer's hard drive. It is lightning fast and can literally search ten thousand patches in a couple of milliseconds.

New remote mode turns the Virus TI into a fully programmable universal MIDI control surface with 32 knobs. Up to 32 preset scenes can be stored in the hardware, each storing up to 32 midi knob assignments and names. Remote Mode does not interfere with the sound engine and can operate as standalone hardware or in your sequencer with VirusControl. Access will provide a library of remote templates which can also be edited using VirusControl, and users can also create and share their own templates.

OS 1.1. will be available in Q2/2006

Outlook

We are happy to announce three exciting software developments. First, together with MOTU, we expect to release a version of VirusControl that is fully supported in Digital Performer. Simultaneously, we are developing an RTAS version which will be fully compatible with Digidesign Protools. Finally, we will also release a Universal Binary version of all Virus TI software components to be compatible with the new Intel Macs, expected in Summer 2006.
