How much latency does the Ti add to the project in Cubase?

  • Simple question. Anyone know?

I checked the "plugin information" in cubase and it says 4864 samples or about 100ms (?). This is huge, but when played within a project which uses 3-5ms asio latency, it feels significantly less (I tried a VST @ 100ms asio latency and it's completely unplayable). I also noticed the VST3 version of the Ti seems to have less latency @ 3072 samples.

So, what is the ACTUAL latency virus Ti plugin would add in a cubase project @ 44.1kHz (for simplicity, let's say the ASIO driver has zero latency)?

    DAW: Cubase 7.5 (x86/x64)
    OS:Windows 7 (64bit)
    CPU: Intel i7 930 @ 4.0GHz
    MB: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
    RAM: 3x 2GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz
GPU: MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II 1GB DDR5
    HDD: Intel 320 120GB SSD, 2x Seagate 320GB (raid0)
    Sound: E-mu 1212M
    Monitoring: Dynaudio BM6A Mk2 + BM9S Sub
    DSP: UAD-2 Duo
USB: Virus Ti, BCF2000, Novation Remote SL...

  • the latency you see in the inspector is not what you will hear. nobody would expect one to record an instrument with a latency of 4000 samples. in fact, the latency is much smaller when you play the virus. so, if your system is configured right, you can roughly expect the virus to have a latency which equals the buffer size of your soundcard. with a buffer size of 128 or 64 (in case you system supports that) everything should feel snappy and responsive.
