Was wondering if anyone had any idea on how the sound in this track was made (comes in at about 30sec) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smt28hhJ5kE.
It sounds like a bit of bit rating as well as very detuned osc or unison and possibly some white noise. Just wondering if i could make a similar sound on my virus.
This sound is based on a hypersaw sound, you can find many generic ones among the patches supplied with the Virus, and other commercial and free banks have them as well. You can also design one yourself, and you guessed right, white noise, distortions as well as detuning are part of the building blocks. But the most important thing about this sound is that the amplitude, pitch (for all oscillators) and filter cutoff follow the same envelope shape (if not the exact same envelope), each with it's own amount of course: medium attack (~60), then stays flat at maximum level until a medium release (~40). Come to think of it sometimes it's better for the filter cutoff frequency to attack quicker than the amplitude. Also to get the right effect for the pitch, all the oscillators taking part should be lowered in the same semitone amount.
