I have been able to record automation by using quick controls but I'm wondering how to automate other parameters that i don't have knobs for...or just automating in general. Do I have to use midi cc?
You can automate VSTi parameters as well as MIDI CC-s. Write-enable your plugin (VC in this case - note that in the VST2 version of VC you manually select the parameters for automation by right clicking the parameters representation as knob graphics). You can also associate a MIDI CC with a certain parameter, just click and drag in VC while you record or draw your automation in an automation track. Here's an example: MhY1aofno5s
