How to make this organ sound?

  • Hey all,

I have a TI snow and have played around with modifying some of the preset organ sounds but haven't had much luck emulating something like in this video (comes in around 3:08):

I would purchase something like that if it was available, otherwise any ideas? The best organ I've gotten is here http://dharmonicdeluxe.bandcamp.com/track/golden-arrow-2 but sadly it only works for a poppy synthy organ sound layered in the mix, not for a basic organ sound. (I know it's not ideal to use a synth for an organ/keys sound, but I don't want to add too much to my setup and it's hard to find a good lightweight organ + rhodes + piano module/keyboard.)

    Thanks!

    /Courtney

  • Many freely available sound banks offer several types of organ sounds, such as the Live Player Set, and many of Matt Picone's banks, such as this one.
In general, you create an organ sound by using a set of sine waves which are harmonically related: they all belong to the same harmonic series. The simplest example is having every oscillator an octave above the previous one. Ring modulation can help you create "product" sine waves from the ones already available from the oscillators. Many of the wavetables available are actually segments of the harmonic series which complement each other. Once you have chosen the set, you can refine the timbre by balancing the volume of the oscillators. Use the "punch" knob to add a click to the notes, add some pitch and/or volume modulation to enrich the sound, use the leslie speaker effect and/or distortion if this is the kind of sound you're looking for.
    Happy tweaking!
