Part change with Launchpad?

  • You can do it with a sysex message to the Virus, but only when VC isn't connected. Apparently, when VC is linked via USB, the Virus no longer recognizes sysex input.

It also transmits this sysex data when you change parts, so it's pretty easy to decipher what you need to send in conjunction with the Virus C Manual available elsewhere on the forum. I got it working in standalone mode the other day, but found it useless since the sysex reception for Page C parameters seems to be disabled when VC is active.

the underlaying problem is that plug-ins do not receive SYSEX from the host and therefore cannot forward those messages to the Virus.

  • Not from the host, no. But you can send it via the port directly (ala lh_midi external in m4l), or to the physical MIDI connection on the Virus (which when not connected via USB link is capable of responding to the sysex).

Still, it would be greatly preferable to just have access to this as a parameter in the VC plugin. Is this not possible for some technical reason? (other than implementation....)

  • Make some blank clips in Live, then in the bottom right hand corner mess around with the Program/Sub/Bank numbers. This means when you select a specific clip (Using the launch pad) it will change the patch on the Virus.
Ensuring on the Virus you have program and multi changes enabled in the config menu.

Also, make sure that you are sending the midi information out of Live down whatever channel the Virus receieves global information from.

    Hope this helps
