During the last KeyNote, Apple has unveiled the new iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. Innovations are expected in the audio ...

Details have not been announced at the Keynote last week, but we know that the CoreAudio will be entitled to an update this fall.

So we should find in OS X and iOS Yosemite August 1 MIDI over Bluetooth LE, new APIs to manage buffers, files and audio data formats, a new system to switch the audio function inter- app and the ability to tag AudioUnit plug-ins. Developers should also optimized to benefit the audio engine code.

Communication between iOS and Mac will therefore strengthen all points of view, since thanks to the MIDI over Bluetooth LE, it will be possible to connect your Bluetooth devices and configure your Mac or iDevice as a MIDI device to send MIDI virtual instruments and effects data between devices (if the thing was already possible to iOS to OS X, the reverse is another matter). Apple says that his wish is to open this protocol to third party manufacturers and make a new standard.

This feature should be available on the latest hardware brand or Mac 2012 and following (some 2011 models support Bluetooth LE native), and following the IPhone 4S and iPad / iPad Mini Retina

  • the second developer beta was released yesterday, so I would hope (& assume) Access and their partners will be tracking this, to ensure we don't have a repeat of the issues we had when Mavericks was released.
( i don't care about the new features, just don't want it to break existing :) )
