Can you sample another VST synth, like Massive or Sylenth?

Have you actually linked the Virus to a channel on your mixer (not master)? And are you using USB to output audio?

Just a couple of days ago I did exactly what you say is not possible: Render the VC tracks directly in the DAW. Cubase 8.5, using the VST3 version of the VC plugin. You have to change render mode to real time.

Ah, ok, but it should also work with the AU plugin. Actually, I was able to use Auto Sampler in MainStage on the Virus TI via Virus Control.
In MainStage/Logic: Add instrument channel, Add VC as Plugin, Add AutoSample as FX Plugin.

Only real time bouncing will work with the Virus TI. Logic, Pro Tools and Cubase
users can choose the right settings straight away from the bounce dialogue
window. Ableton Live, FL Studio, Sonar and Digital Performer users need to re-
record the Virus. Details on how to do that can be found in the respective tutorials.
Users of hosts which do not feature realtime bouncing need to find an alternative
way, such as re-recording the TI’s output to an audio track.
