logic pro x unexpectedly quit

In the past week during patch creation sessions, Logic X did the unexpectedly quit thing twice at seemingly random times. The sequencer is stopped, the focused channel strip only has VC, smexoscope & channel Eq. I haven't updated to Sierra yet. Has anyone else experienced this?

OK, I read it could be a template gone bad. I have been fine tuning the one I was using and saving it quite a bit lately. I'll start there. Then to try deleting preference files if that doesn't work. Wish me luck.
