a synth is not Genre based. Genres are based on Synth.
Virus has a "trance "reputation and people think that is bad... its very simple if you want presets , yea then virus comes close to be able to called a trance synth. BUT a synth is only as good as the person behind it.
For instance: TB303 was created for "acoustic musicians " to have a bassist with them all the time...... well it became the ACID machine.
If you think the virus does it bad (and yea it has issues on that front)

its quiet simple something with the VST: cos when you start the VST the virus is a crackling bitch.
but when you connect directly without the vst the usb driver is stable and noiseless........
i got exactly the same thing, crackling , tried other usb ports. exactly the same.

Waldorf is like that too: i have a sync issue that is known by them and every other owner: in a mail they said: Within a month we gonna release a new update....
one month becomes months, and months ..... years
i ask myself how can you present something on Namm when its not ready to release? 
I truly hope you do not have serious issues.

i use an editor as vst , succesfully. so yes,
indeed google Waldorf editor and you will find a good one
