Morning virusland.

I'm going a bit crazy this morning. I haven't programmed the virus in a while and I'm struggling to remember where I need to go on the TI to vary volume by pitch.

The best I have found so far is in the ModMatrix using keyfollow to mod patch volume, but I don't know where I control which note this is based from. I tried editing the note in the filter section but it didn't seem to do what I expected.

A tiny bit more info - I'm building up a Multipatch for our bands next song, and I want one part to become more audible as I move up the keyboard to help smooth the join between overlapping layers.

Please point me in the right direction!

Hi there

I was just wondering if there is an easy way to edit a pre-defined arpeggio pattern and save it as a User arpeggio. I want to take Pattern 6 and shift it 3 semi-quavers along.

In Virus Control when using a patch with a pre-defined pattern the arpeggio pattern is not displayed.

Any idea if this is possible?

Just to let you know, this is now resolved.

I uninstalled the Virus software and re-installed and it worked straight away.

BACK TO MAKING MUSIC NOT ARSING ABOUT WITH SOFTWARE!

Unfortunately, I'm back here again after a rather frustrating Sunday night.

I took the opportunity to upgrade PT10 to 10.3.2 (I'd been putting it off for a while). After a couple of hours I managed to get this sorted and I'm back up and running again.

However, I'm back to sqaure one with the Virus. Again, I feel I must be missing something incredibly obvious and simple but here's the problem:

1. I can open a blank PT session as normal
2. I create a stereo Instrument track and use the multichannel Virus TI insert plugin.
3. Virus control opens just fine
4. I arm the track and play. No audio output.

5. I opened the PT tutorial demo file and this plays OK. Repeating steps 1-4 in here is no better.

So, steps 1-4 were what I was doing before today and it was working fine. After the PT update I'm struggling.

Any ideas where I can start looking? I'm done for tonight and feeling depressed. Beer time.

I've only had my TI keyboard a couple of weeks and have noticed this crackling on a few patches in standalone mode. (I haven't A/B'd with VC mode yet).

The patches are not particularly complex or voice intensive as far as I'm aware...

If it helps, I get the exact same thing if I try and plug the power lead into the Virus when the mains plug is already turned on. I've not had this 'feature' on any of my other equipment before.

It doesn't worry me at all. I just need to remember to do things in a specific order...

Hmm... as a shot in the dark maybe you can make use of the ability to set the Triton track status to ext/ext2 etc. to generate MIDI commands to control the Virus, thus the only addition to your rack would be an additional MIDI cable...

Thanks FB. This has done it. I've assigned a control knob on the Triton to send standard CC07 MIDI messages to the Virus. I've de-activated the knob in respect of the parts of the Triton Multi so that turning the knob doesn't affect the output of the Triton, and also ensured that the Input Patch I have set-up as part of the Virus Multi does not receive the MIDI message, whilst ensuring that all the other parts of the Virus Multi do receive the MIDI message.

THANK YOU. I'm now ready to rock with minimal outboard gear and a huge reduction in cabling compared to my pre-Virus rig. Just got to sort out patches for all our songs now.....but that's the fun part!

Intrigued by this, I found a video on the Support page that gives a very clear explanation of Section Locking. Noisetheorem - this is probably worth a quick look.

I've only just purchased my TI and I'm in the process of converting my live set-up to incorporate this. The TI will effectively be replacing a Roland V-Synth and Waldorf Blofeld. Previously, I used an expression pedal to control various parameters on the V-Synth and I imagine the same thing will interest me on the TI. Like you, I often need two hands playing and a degree of manual control over sound manipulation. I don't know if I could cope with 4 expression pedals though as you do!

I'll definitely be referring to this guide when I get to this stage of set-up.

You can do this in approximately 30 seconds.

Ex: You want to fill RAM-A bank with a RAM-A 0 INIT patch.

1 - Fill the first column (patches RAM-A 0 to RAM-A 15) with the patch INIT you want. To do so, go to the tab Browser in the Virus plugin. Select RAM-A in the upper section, and also RAM-A in the lower section. Drag and drop from the lower section of the browser RAM-A 0 INIT to the upper section of the browser. Each time you do this, you replace a patch with your INIT patch.

2 - When you reach RAM-A 15, you stop. Here is the magic. Select the first column in the lower browser window. To select all the column, select the first patch RAM-A 0 and click on RAM-A 15 while pressing the SHIFT key of your keyboard. All the patches should be selected.

3 - Drag and drop the selection to the second column in the upper browser window. Tada! Rinse and repeat til you filled all the columns.

I can make you a video tutorial if I wasn't clear.

Hi all

I'm embarrassed to be asking, but I'm struggling with my new Virus TI keyboard and Pro Tools. Unfortunately, I'm new to both of these and I'm struggling to isolate where my problem is.

I've managed to 'connect' the Virus TI to Pro Tools. I can play (and hear) the demo song. I can see and access my patch library.

The problem that I'm having is getting any user played sound from the Virus into Pro Tools. I don't really want to record anything right now (I will in future), but I just want to be able to use the Access Virus Control interface to edit/create patches. I can adjust all the settings, but when I play the Access keyboard, I can't hear anything. Obviously, not ideal for patch creation!

I have the new beta of OS5 installed. I am connected to my PC running Pro Tools 10 via USB. I know that I could hook up the analog outs, but I thought I would be able to play the keyboard and hear the output just via the USB cable. Is this wrong?

I realise that I've probably missed out a lot of useful information to help diagnose, so please ask away and I will get back to you.

As I said at the start, this could easily be an issue with what I'm doing in Pro Tools rather than what I'm doing with the Virus. I'm a novice user with both...

Any thoughts?

I have an idea which I never tried myself but might work - try assigning a "global" (meaning for the whole multi) soft knob for controller X (there are several possible options for controller number). In all of the non-input patches create a matrix routing from this controller to patch volume, and leave the input patch as is. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave this a try last night, but I couldn't get it working. No matter what I do, it seems the soft-knobs are only active on the part of a Multi that is shown on the display, regardless of the global setting.

There are a couple of reasons I had. They may not be good reasons, but it made sense to me!

• My live set-up with the Korg uses the Multi set-up, and most of the multis I use already have the full 8 parts allocated to specific Korg patches. I can't face re-working everything!
• I was not aware of a way that I could send from the Korg 3 separate LR mixes without introducing an additional external box. I'm really trying hard to minimise equipment. Every box/wire/plug I can get rid of helps, no matter how small!
• I thought I might like to use the Virus effects/controls to manipulate the Korg output.

Since my initial post, I have now purchased my TI. What a beast! I'm still working my way up the learning curve (and I suspect I will be for a considerable time) but I have managed to configure a Multi/patch arrangement as per Flabberbobs suggestion, and thus I'm getting my 3 separate LR mixes out of the Virus.

One thing that I hadn't considered is that I don't think I will have a way of being able to turn down the sounds generated in the Virus, whilst leaving the Korg output passing through the Virus at the same volume. This is a shame (and I take your point that I could do this on the Korg if I switched my set-up around), but it's something I'm going to try and work around for the reasons listed above.

Of course, if there is an inventive was of doing this (turning Virus sounds down whilst keeping Korg sounds at same volume), I'm all ears!

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I'd spent ages trying to decipher manuals and wade through various message boards and I was starting to go a little crazy!

Your answer sounds very promising. In summary, if I manage my patches/multis correctly I will be able to send 3 identical LR mixes (one via headphones and two via stereo pairs within surround sound config), where each of the LR mixes could include a combination of TI and/or Korg sounds depending upon what I'm playing.

This is GREAT news.

Hi all

First time post from a potential TI keyboard owner...

I want to use the TI keyboard as part of my live rig. In order to cut down on the amount of gear/cables I need to carry around with me I would like to route the audio from my Korg Triton Extreme through the TI. I've done as much relevant reading as I can find, and I believe that I'll be able to send the audio through standard jack cables from the Korg into the TI. I'll always be using the TI in multi-mode (not aware of any downsides of this?) so I'll be able to assign a part of the multi as an INPUT from the Korg and have the sound OUTPUT mixed with the sounds from the TI via a single stereo jack pair from the TI, thus reducing my cabling. So far (hopefully), so good.

Now my two questions:

1. Will the headphone jack on the TI also output the sounds that are being fed to it from the Korg?
2. Is it possible to send two identical stereo outputs (in addition to the headphones) from the TI? I'd like to send one stereo pair to the house sounddesk, and another pair to a secondary on stage mixer. Can this be done?

I hope my questions make sense. Please let me know if you would like me to elaborate!
