At the risk of stating the obvious, it depends on what you're connecting it to. TRS will only be beneficial if the other end of the connection has balanced inputs.

You can download OS2.8 which includes all the factory sounds from the support page:
-
Not sure about the Snow specifically but for the Virus A you just play the midi file back to it. There's a global parameter which sets where the sounds are saved (original bank, Bank A, Bank B, or load one sound at a time). I would imagine it's similar for the Snow.

Thanks for your answer. That was my understanding too, but somehow I don't have the extra banks.
I'm not sure whether they come with that OS update and somehow changing the battery reverted to only A-D, or maybe the patch activating banks E-F is in another archive somewhere?
Or maybe I just imagined that it was possible to expand the banks to E-F and that's in fact only possible with Virus C onward?
Not sure tbh. I had a quick look at the manual and it seems you should be able to copy from A or B to C-H. Maybe you have to do that before you can select patches from those banks? I'm guessing a bit so please ignore me if this isn't helping.

The Virus B OS 4.9 download says it's compatible with Virus B, kb and Indigo so I would say you have the latest version.
-
When I said it was straightforward, maybe I should have mentioned I'm a MacBook user
For the librarian, everyone seems to be using Mystery Islands - there are quite a few threads on here. I've tried a couple of others but I couldn't get the demos to work so I ditched them.
-
I'm sure you'll be fine but the instructions in the linked thread seem way over-engineered to me. It really is as simple as playing the midi files (routed to the Virus midi in) and then hitting store.
As abraxa says, if there are sounds you want to keep, you'll need to save them first and reload them after, but I'm guessing if your banks are the same you only have the factory presets.
Let us know how you get on.

Ah, fair enough. I wasn't aware Midi Ox plays midi files, but it looks like SysEx Librarian does too so that method is indeed good!
-
I don't think that method works does it? The updates are .mid files not .syx so don't you need sequencer software to play them?
-
As far as I know there's only one method and that's to play the midi files with midi clock turned off. Once the Virus has received them, you press store. Have you downloaded the manual as well? It's all set out on p158-160.

That's good then, sounds like progress. Thanks for sharing.

Why search for jke when https://www.virus.info/forum/i…ist/13995-mysteryislands/ exists? He posted from that account just this year, so I see no reason to believe that he stopped supporting or working on his products. Maybe he is burnt out and needs a break? Who knows. I appreciate his efforts either way and hope things will become better again.
Ah, my mistake - Jkervinen is his old username. According to the website, MI is now looked after by Aura Plugins. It doesn't say whether he is still involved or not.
-
Has anyone tried support@auraplugins.com - that's the email address for them on kvraudio.
I'm following these discussions with interest as I'd quite like a TI, but if it doesn't work with Mac and there's no support I'm going to give it a miss.

He's deleted his account by the look of it. If you go to Members, then Search Members, type jke and nothing comes up.
Pretty sure I've seen him posting here in 2022.

Hi everyone.
I need to make end panels for my A, which only had the rack mounting when I bought it. Just wondering if anyone out there could post a scanned outline drawing (ie put the Virus on a piece of paper and draw round the end panel) together with the width measurement please?
TIA

What version of the OS are you on? The update for 2.52 includes all the sounds, but it puts them in banks C and D, which I don't think exist in earlier OS versions.
Alternatively, you can do a System Reset - hold down the LFO 1 SHAPE and LFO 2 SHAPE buttons while switching the VIRUS on. This allows you to restore the sounds but obviously you will lose anything you have saved yourself.
-
You're welcome, glad to hear it was helpful. I've only just got my Virus (A) as well - I originally looked at one in 1998 so it's been quite a long wait!
-
oh? How come? Thanks again for your advice
No prob. The second post was to supplement the first one, but I edited the first one instead. I couldn't see how to delete the second one, so I edited it to say "ignore"

Ignore this post.

I would start with a triangle wave on Osc 1 and a square on Osc 2 tuned 7 semitones higher. Turn the resonance up a bit so you get some boost without self-oscillating and play with the filter cutoff. Set all your envelope parameters to zero apart from a short decay on the filter and a slightly longer one on the amp.
If your model has envelope 3, set that to a short attack and decay and use it to modulate Osc Noise Vol - that will add a little bit of grit to the start of the sound.
How does that compare with what you've got so far?
