Holding "Tap and Config" while booting TI did NOT display serial no. only OS. Very awkward to get serial no from base when eyesight is not great and instrument inaccessible. A little more consideration for the user when registering on new site would be much appreciated.

Tap + Config didn't display TI no serial!

for those who cannot access the serial number easily we've provides a key combo so they can read out the display. and i can assure you that config+tap while booting shows the serial number. remove the power cord, hold both buttons, plug it in, hold and wait and after a couple of seconds you will see it. it is not difficult.

For whatever reason, i dont think it's usually clear that you need to take the power out - probably because the reset function (which is a hold while 'boot up' type operation) which many are used to doesn't require this...

you're right, that wasn't clear (actually it wasn't clear to me until today as well). the display of the serial number was always intended to be a a service function, maybe that's why it wasn't tested extensively. we just thought it might ease the registration process when we mention it.

Ah now if it had said "remove power cord, hold config + tap, reconnect power cord and reboot" life would have been easier. Hopefully it now wll be for others.

How do you get out of display serial mode without just pulling the plug? (which I guess wouldn't be a good thing to do)

you can't. this service function is nothing you should need to perform.
