Just in case you find this thread: I re-capped my whole Virus B due to the same problem (startup but hang with black bar in the display, no version of OS, but LEDs blinking). Changed all capacitors from green to blue ones (higher temp resistance, lower ESR). After that, the synth booted fine but the biggest of all three coils started to make a 8.5KHz noise, probably because the power now flows like it should. Casted a layer of epoxy onto the whole coil and let it dry/harden. Now the noise is also gone.
