If the update is failing, it could be that your USB cable is bad.
It's very fussy about USB cable.
You need to use one like the originally supplied cable - braided shield type.

Works OK for me, but we'd need more info on your system.
I do now.
Hexa-core Mac Pro (2013 cylinder style)
El Capitan Public Beta 5
Sonnet Thunderbolt to USB3 connector for Virus
Proper USB cable (some don't work and have pops and crackles)
You can also use a similar trick on Ableton, using an audio channel.
I normally set the output to sends only and turn all the send amounts down to set (only way I've found to nullify the main Virus output).
Then I set up 3 or more audio channels and take their inputs from Virus. Set up the channels for recording and off you go.
Only draw-back, is having to crop the recorded audio since there's often some latency.
Also agreed. I think I suggested similar a few years ago.
Best short-term solution I've found:
Use the command-R recovery system to re-install El Capitan. It re-installs Public Beta 1.
From there, you can install PB2.
That version works OK.
No problem.
I also realise that we're out on our own when testing beta stuff like this. Also, the problem isn't anything relating to Access.
Just wanted to flag a potential problem if anyone was thinking of going this route to improve their Virus Ti connection.
There is no layout as such when I connect the eLicenser direct to my MacBook (with no other devices).
Are you sure that you're on El Capitan Public Beta 4 Marc? Public Beta 3 and before were OK.
Could you check your build version?
It's not just me having this problem by the way.

Worth noting - Public Beta 4 has broken Steinberg's eLicenser and iLok!
That means Cubase and various plug-ins won't work!
In case people have missed it, Elektron are soon to release a USB hub aimed at the audio market.
It should, in theory, be great for devices like Virus. It will take the guess-work out of which hub is fully MTT.
Still working OK!
Nice!
Will give it a go tonight if I get chance.
Edit: Running fine so far (on my El Capitan partition).
Crumbs!
You may be right. This looks like a big improvement.
I've just managed to get the Ti plug-in running on my Mac Pro, with the system already running before I powered up my Virus.
I've *never* been able to do that before on this system.
Now, I'm sure Access aren't going to recommend running with this beta, but this is looking very promising.
Well, that's certainly interesting information.
I've gone for El Capitan on my laptop, but have kept my Mac Pro on Yosemite.
Maybe I should backup my Mac Pro and give El Capitan a try?
My system is kind-of working, but the hub situation is still not quite right.
Maybe it's uncovered some other horrible-ness in the software?
That could be a good thing in the long-run if there's some corruption or similar lurking in there which can now be investigated.
Hope we get an update!
Any update on this, since the new drivers have been pulled?
In case it's of use to anyone, here's what I had to do to get my Virus Ti working in plug-in mode on my new Mac Pro (2013 cylinder).
My problems seem to have been due to multiple causes.
1) Make sure you're using a USB cable like the one supplied with the Virus - usually a braided see-through plastic covered cable. Standard USB cables worked for my on my 2011 MacBook, but the Mac Pro / USB3 system is more fussy.
2) Boot the Virus fully before powering up the Mac, otherwise Virus shows activity on the plug-in, but DAW (Cubase and Ableton in my case) get no audio returned via USB. When powering down, fully power off the Virus and the Mac.
3) Use a Thunderbolt to USB3 adapter specifically dedicated to Virus. I've got the Sonnet USB3 / eSATA adapter. I also have one Thunderbolt channel dedicated to the Sonnet adapter.
4) 5.1.1.0 beta drivers seem to be OK for me, but the now removed 5.1.2.0 beta also seemed OK.
For what it's worth, I have the Sonnet Thunderbolt to USB and eSATA working, using 5.1.1.0.
Have also had to drop back to 5.1.1 due to re-installing some stuff and the later beta drivers apparently being pulled. Works OK with a new Sonnet Thunderbolt to USB3 and eSATA adapter, for specific and exclusive use with Virus!
