VST3 and VST2 incompatible ?

  • I guess this has been asked before, since it's a real showstopper. But I couldn't find an answer by the search function...

I updated my DAW (system and software) from XP3 to Win7 64 and Nuendo 5.01 64bit. VirusTI is now installed as a 64bit VST3 version and works smoothly.

PROBLEM: The old songs that had the VirusTI running as a VST2 plugin don't find the plugin. This means that all data for the TI is lost.

When loading an old song, Nuendo reports "The VST-Plugin 'Virus TI' could not be found!". You can of course replace it with the VST3-plugin, but it's initialized then, what makes little sense to me. As far as I can see, the filename of the plugin doesn't help here. And besides this, it already IS identical. I guess the plugin ID is written into the dll itself. If this is true, why are the IDs different here ?

And workaround ? Or even a solution ? Besides installing the VST2 plugin in parallel, which I will do now, but hate to do it...
