I don't understand why Access has been so shy to disclose any news - I prefer the message that says "it is progressing, we have some issues to fix, and it would come before summer" rather that not having any communication.

Marc & the rest of the Access guys must be in a difficult position when it comes to deciding if they should disclose any info about future updates, if they do mention anything some people will want it yesterday & start complaining how badly Access are treating them when the (free) update doesn't materialise quickly. If they say nothing & just release (free) updates then other people say they don't care for their customers enough - even though every improvement, new feature & upgrade to the OS has been made available for free, Access apparently doesn't care for it's customers enough.

Come on guys, we are all really lucky that Access does care for us enough to do all this additional work on top of creating a fantastic piece of equipment for us in the first place & make it available to us for free.

By not communicating, Access always sends the message that it ignores its customers base (fan base).

By bug fixing, upgrading OS & talking directly with their customers on their own forum, Access clearly sends the message that customer feedback is important & of value to them.

If you really want to know what it feels like to be kept in the dark, you should try reporting a bug to Apple or try to find out what the future holds for Logic…

For aliasing you'd want to use a spectral analyzer

Ruari: it's very hard to estimate the quality of any oscillator only by looking at the waveform. At least, look at the spectrum, which is more important here.

Holy crap, I've ran these same synths through a spectrum analyser & I can see quite a remarkable difference between them. Here's my screenshots in the same order as before, see all the little frequencies in the top one (which is the Virus by the way) they slowly glide back & forth if I keep the key pressed.

You have to filter all of these non-audible high frequencies, which means smoothing the sharp edges of your signal.

If a higher sample rate can't happen would better filtering be a potential solution?

That top one (the Virus) isn't actually it's raw saw tooth. You've got the analog boost on there which causes that lower dip.

Good shout, my mistake - here's the Virus with Analog boost turned off

For aliasing you'd want to use a spectral analyzer and your ears though not s(m)exscope..

Yes, but I was responding to you saying that the Virus oscillators weren't as good as the other synths you listed & I was (perhaps wrongly) thinking that if it can make something that looks like a sawtooth in s(m)exoscope then that would be job done.

    Zitat

Here's one example of aliasing done with the Virus where you can hear it breaking up the higher it goes.

It's clearly audible in your example, but is that a problem with the oscillator or is it possibly something else?

    I don't know the answer & I'm genuinely interested.

    Zitat

Let's be realistic here.. these days people don't rave about how well
the raw Virus oscillators are coded and they don't stand up to current
offerings like Diva, Strobe, Massive, or Sylenth. They just don't.

I'm no scientist, but when people say things like this I'm always a bit intrigued by what they mean & am interested to know why the Virus oscillators get such a hard time.

I've done this test once before, but seeing as this has come up again in this thread I've ran it again - if anyone remembers the last test I did there's no point in searching for it as I've used different synths this time - As I say I'm no scientist so this test is by no means conclusive but I think it does show some interesting results, all 4 synths were sounding a single sawtooth oscillator, all filters were fully open & there was no further processing applied. The Virus audio is coming in via USB, the other 3 synths are audio units so there should be no discrepancy due to AD converters, all synths are from different manufacturers.

So, from these pics, which oscillator is best? Why is it the best one? Which is the worst one? Why is it the worst one?

Phew, at least we know that your arrow keys are working as they should now, I was starting to scratch my head a bit there.

I know what you mean about wanting to use the hardware buttons though, I think the reason why we can't probably has something to do with the way VC reads the patch banks from MIDI files on our computers as opposed to the RAM/ROM banks which are stored on the Virus hardware itself.

Hmm, same as me apart from I'm still on 10.6.8

When I load up VC in Logic & go to the browser window, when I click on either of the panels the patch I clicked on gets highlighted in blue & the panel gets a sort of white haze to it to show that's the one in focus - from there I can use my arrow keys to scroll through the patches.

If you're not seeing that behaviour I don't know what to suggest for you to try

Do you mean the list of patches you see in the browser window of VC?

Unless you are browsing a ROM/RAM bank I don't think it can be done via the prog +/- buttons, so long as you keep the browser window open you can scroll through them using the arrow keys on your computer keyboard.

I just want to understand the easiest way to write moving of controllers

Change channel strip automation mode to Latch or Touch then PLAY your project from where you wish to write the automation or just a bit before, fiddle with your knobs to your hearts desire then stop your project. Change the automation mode to Read once you are done to avoid overwriting your work by accident.

The picture you've shown is known as Virus Control or VC for short, the Virus Control Center or VCC (names too similar, I know) is a standalone programme for updating your OS or other housekeeping tasks & is in your Access Music folder inside your Applications folder if you are on a Mac. I don't know where you would find it if you were using the other kind of computers, probably in some kind of programmes folder I guess :S

Open the Virus Control Center software & connect to the machine you wish to rename, once connected go to the Advanced menu at the top left of your screen & select Set Device Name

The thing that seems to be happening is that program change messages and filter changes etc are being transmitted from the Moog to the Virus.

Depending on what you intend to do with the MIDI out from the Moog there's a couple of options for you.

First of all I'd suggest going to the environment & in the click & ports layer create a new monitor object & drag a cable from the port that the Moog MIDI Out is connected to into it - this will create a dead end for the MIDI signals so they won't affect your Virus any more.

Then you might want to connect that monitor directly to your Moog track in the arrange window, you would do that by option-clicking the monitor out & selecting the correct track from the drop down. Now it won't matter what track you have selected in the arrange window the Moog will only transmit to it's own track.

My soundset was selled 17 times until now and over 2,5 months has already passed .

It seems that a lot of people want everything for free. For this reason my complete work was offered for free one week only with a donation request !!.That week my soundset was downloaded 200 times 8| !! and over 20 users declared that my work is amazing but they don't have money for donation !!! 8| . Huhh ?

    Welcome to the internet…

    Marc,

Is there any chance you could increase the time that we get to read those testimonials on the main site before they switch to the next one, or even put some controls on them so we can stop them & scroll through them at will.

    Thanks
