I may have missed this but the ability to save or copy arp patterns between patches. I've sometimes come up with great arps that fit the groove but find it very difficult/time consuming to duplicate them on other patches. Currently using a nearly as time consuming capture of midi out but not really as easy as it could be.

Load the patch, Lock both Arpeggiator sections in Virus Control, load your other patch, you're done.

I'm a new virus user (Ti Snow). I've noticed that USB3 Out is disabled (greyed out). Any particular reason for this? I'm Using Cubase 5.1 with Windows 7 32-bit

Yes, on the Common Page in VC the IO Configuration is set to "2 Outputs/No Input" which means, that the additional 2 streams are used by the ASIO/Coreaudio soundcard feature of the Virus. USB3 is available, if you set the IO config to "3 Outputs/No Input" or "3 Outputs/1 Input", "USB3" will become available. As a trade off, the Virus soundcard functionality will not be to your disposal anymore, since the number of possible streams has been maxed out.

One Thing I have noticed is that if I try to use any other USB device, I will get a error stating that the USB bandwidth has been exceeded, which is most likely due to the Virus. Would the lack of USB bandwidth cause Virus Control to disable the 3rd USB output?

No, the virus just takes up to 73% of the USB1.1 bandwidth on an USB Root Hub. This is a technical fact. Usually, another (about) 20% are reserved for system use. That is why Access recommends to use the Virus on a single USB Root Hub alone. Notice that I write "Root Hub" and not "Hub". A Root Hub is the actual controller and has usually 2 connectors on the rear side of your computer. Also, as it is on the Apple Mac platform, there can be additional devices conntected internally competing on the bandwidth.

What you need to do: Reserve a root hub for the virus, this can also be done by using a PCI USB Card.

    Hi,

this is nothing VC actually can help, since the plugin window is managed by the host. But there are 'ye 'ol windows trickery'.

    What you can do:

    1) Open VC so the window is (at least partly) visible and click once on it, so it gets focus.
    2) Press ALT+SPACE
    3) select "Move Window" by using the arrow keys and pressing ENTER
    4) hit the cursor keys once or twice, then move the mouse

the window will stick to your mouse cursor now

    5) click with the left mouse button when the window is fully visible.

Check the settings in the Config/Audio menus regarding line level etc. If you are using Virus Control, check wether you have set the IO Config to "2 Outputs/No Input", so the soundcard functionality gets not affected.

I'd like to know if it's possible to "copy" the A066 - "Softie CK" patch from my Virus Rack XL? I saw you've got all the ROM patches from the Virus C Series, is there any file with the RAM banks?

Just save the patch with sounddiver or via sysex dump, save it as a MIDI file and put it into the "Patches" folder on your harddrive, then use Virus Control to load the patch to the Virus.

Is it possible to save a single patch on a hard drive? This is for backup. I know an entire bank can be saved, but that seems excessive if I only want to save a single patch. (I have TI desktop, mac pro, logic 8.02 and am creating sounds with virus control.)

    Thanks.

Just create an empty patch bank and store the patch into it. There is no additional overhead when you have a bank with only one patch in it, it will be about 550 bytes, not more.

Actually, it is inefficient to store only one patch from another perspective: on harddisks, a single file will always occupy 4K (at least), on larger harddrives up to 64KB (depending on the filesystem etc.).

I hope we can get some buttons in the easy page, to go thgouth patches, or use the mouse scroll wheel to change to the next patch in the browser rather than double clicking on each sound in the bank. Unless I have missed something and there is a method that I dont know of.

Use the cursor keys on your (computer) keyboard.

I think the most USB outs you can get is 3, but if you "mono" your sounds and hard pan each channel either left or right...you might be able to get six channels out of it using 3 USB outs. You wouldn't want 8 stereo outs of USB, that is not a good idea. Although it is a fact that USB is faster then Firewire, FW has A LOT more bandwidth. If the Virus were FW, (which would be a bad idea for compatibility reasons) it would handle 8 channels easy, but it's not so it won't and that's a good thing.

Unfortunately, you are wrong. FW has it's own share of problems.

i know this isnt really what the TI is all about but....

i would really like to use the VC while on the move with the laptop [and no im not buying a snow]. so maybe a cut down version of VC as a VST to allow jamming of ideas on the move and fine tuning at full strength when connected to the TI back home. so no atomizer etc just core programming available.

There is no sound generation at all in Virus Control, so there is nothing that could be stripped down.
The snow btw is pretty handy on the road and it serves as soundcard, too, so it might be a consideration.

The "Live Mode" setting can only be changed when the sequencer is stopped. A latency change is something that works only during a stopped playback in some hosts, therefore the button is locked against changes, when an arrangement is playing.

to know which Live parameters config has choice your ableton user ?
can you ask him which is his setup ?

i would like use my Virus TI2 with VC and a good sound sync !!

with a 256 samples buffer the sound sync is better but is still bad and when i push a key on my midi controller the latency is to high ...

Please read and follow the Ableton Live Tutorial PDF and read the Addendum, especially the chapter "Live Mode" that helps to work around some (Virus unrelated) limitations in Ableton Live.
Also it is recommended to use at least Ableton Live 8.02. and the VST version (not AU, in case you're on the Mac).
