I think it would be better workflow if you were able to choose audio output directly from the channel table, just next to the channel number.

i think so too, i change outputs a lot.

If you are talking about the left hand side of VC where the volume sliders are, then it's already possible. Just right click on the little Direct Out button and it will bring up a list of all the outputs.
