Different installer versions for maxOS and Windows causing unwanted Firmware Update

  • Hi,

following scenario is driving me nuts:

I am running the Virus TI2 in two diffferent setups. One with Windows 10 and Ableton Live and the other with macOS and Logic.

The problem is now that the latest Installer versions for the TI2 have different minor versions, causing the installer from the opposite platform
installing the firmware each time I switch. The problem is not only that it takes ages every time but also that the ROM banks from the two different
versions are also different. This is a big problem since I cannot transfer the songs between the two systems, because of missing ROM patches.

@access : Why is that so? I would understand that the installer wants always the newest version and performs an update, but performing a downgrade
of the TI firmware makes no sense IMHO.

If I would like to circumvent the problem, I think I have to use the version 5.0.8.00 of the installer. But this package is nearly 3 years old and I am certainly missing
bugfixes and features as well. This is no option for me.

Does anybody have the same problem? And how to deal with it?

    Regards
    Matthias

  • I asked this previously : http://www.virus.info/forum/in…highlight=fake&#post31058
And in another post where I was asking again, Marc said "we are on it" (one year ago): http://www.virus.info/forum/in…S/?postID=31014#post31014
I hope this time they will listen to us and Access will really "be on it".
Previously I think they did this with win 5.1.0 win and 5.1.1 mac, releasing a "fake" win version to match the system version to 5.1.1...
Switching system everytime is unhealthy for the synth itself.

  • Definitely a no-go and a huge PITA if you take your synth to different places.

    Bass Player and Synthesist.
    Virus TI2 Darkstar | Virus TI2 Desktop | Sub 37 | Voyager RME | Machinedrum | Analog Four | Digitone | MPC Live | NI Maschine+
    Mac OS 13.6.6 (Ventura) | Cubase Pro 13.0 | Ableton Live 9.6 | Logic 10.8 | MainStage 3.6 | NI Komplete Ultimate 14 | RME Fireface UFX+

  • I got round this problem, by going all-Mac.

...but yes - Access should really fix this.

Here I only have Win10 machines, but often I collaborate with a friend in a studio having Mac. I always kept 5.0.8 for that reason, but after he upgraded to a new mac we ended putting the Virus apart using it only for some FX sound that I recorded in my studio.
Since the exact moment that OSX needs its own Virus OS version, this mismatch kills the mutiplatform ability of the Virus.
