OS4 Stomp Boxes

    I wasn't sure where to put this. I figured because it's future-ware I'd put it in the Beta discussion.



    I thought we could take a look at the distortions and see if we can guess what they're modeled after. According to the sonic state video

    So let's go through the list.


    Mint Overdrive - This one's easy. Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer

    Curry Overdrive - Curry is yellowish orange. Site says "Curry Overdrive - A more extreme distortion, like in the original, this does not feature a Tone control." - I originally thought it might be a Boss OD-2, but without tone control, I don't know. any ideas? - I'm going to guess the MXR Distortion+ ? Could be wrong on this one

    Saffron Overdrive - I'm thinking the Boss DS-1

    Onion Overdrive - "A big distortion effect famous for its fuzzy character." Hmmm. What color are onions? There's red ones, green ones, and white ones....

    Pepper Overdrive - "A clear, powerful distortion thatʼs perfect for making leads cut right through the mix. Tone control to soften sound with a lowpass filter." - No idea. Long shot guess is the Rat pedal

    heh. Anyway, looking forward to playing with 4.0! New features are sick as sin. I'm working on a new "Zeno Patches Library" (volume 2) and I've got about 30 more patches to add before it's finished. I'm thinking that once I get my hands on 4.0, I'll spend a day or two hammering out some new sounds. :)

    I can't remember wether the "characters" can be used to shape an input sound, but if this is the case I'll definitely need to hook my best guitarist friend's guitar into the TI some time

    They can, everything in the effects section works on input audio.
    Really looking forward to these distortions & cab.

    It is not, but can be used as. I don't see why that would be bad...Not everybody does electronic music with the virus, and these new additions can be very useful for a wide range of applications. Most of the distortions will probably go with acid like bread and butter but I don't see any "evil" in plugging a guitar in my virus and let a friend have a shot at these stompboxes emulations. It may actually be pretty cool for those who are on a budget, if an effect works very good and you have a spare part, use it...I'd love to have a prog jam with my friends so, again, why not. :)

    I run my guitar through the virus all the time... its an amazing effects unit, that alone would be worth at least $1000, for anything, guitars, vocals, other synths, etc... the stompbox and speaker cabinet emulations just add more to an already great unit. have you never put your synths through a stompbox? you are missing out if you havent.

    if u are on a budget you don't buy a virus ti but you just go for a cheap stompbox.

    [size=12]The distortion models on the TI always belonged to the great things this synth offers. Various kinds of distortion are needed all the time, for VA lead synths just as well as for electronic styles, including bass sounds.


    So I regard these ablities as essential part of the TI and would never want to use the TI without this great feature.
    If it gets even better with the new modes, I really welcome that!


    The only thing that makes me smile is the fantasy put in efforts to identify exact stompbox models for the distortion variations.
    I guess most of this part takes place in user minds, even if encouraged by Marc ;)

    I agree with defrigge the distortion and saturation models have always been essential for certain sounds,
    a major update like this can only be welcomed.
    Along with the new mod FX, bit crusher etc it's looking a very full complement of FX, just need multiple arp>matrix pages now. ;)


    I don't think the names are fantasy though,
    if you watch the demo Video he says the colours represent the originals they are modelled on
    and actually says the name of a few of them albeit as puns.
    "this one... FUZZ in your FACE"
    "this one ... make your TUBE SCREAM", etc
